Oh.... This is an *interesting* experience. Boxes and words hopping and skipping around all over the pages, first to the left, then to the right. Dissappearing headers, the works. Right now, it feels like a lot more work than straight HTML, but I have a feeling my opinion on that may change in the next few weeks as we explore and (hopefully) learn new styles of CSS. I was having trouble deciding what kind of text or information to use for my example. Didn't want to bore myself with *this is a paragraph* or other such interesting content....THEN, my feline owner, who has been sitting in my lap assisting me with this lesson suggested that since I was talking about NAMES being given to things, that he would allow me to use his favorite poem which is about THE most important name of all....HIS! (He's had his head buried in his paws for hours now as he can not not stand to see me crashing and bashing what he considers great literature against the walls of different browsers.) *GRIN* The first problem I had was getting the text to match and line up in both Netscape and IE. IE picked up my font choice right away, but I had to try the P STYLE included inside each table data cell (as suggested :) to get Netscape to grab it. THEN, something about the way I did it caused problems in the overall centering. I have yet to have success with getting a table lined up in both IE and NS with inline commands. I started fiddling with DIV ID's in the header. I nested the table I wanted to show in a large invisible table and tried assigning a position
to that one. I tried em's to the left and the right which worked well at 1024x768,
but I never could get it *skinny* enough to lose the horizontal scroll in 800x600. Just for the heck of it, I then tried the CENTER command
in an absolute position....that's the closest I have been able to get to centering in Netscape. It is still slightly out of line (to the left)
and not properly centered with the graphic and the line of text I tried to do as totally inline above the table. Seems the value of CENTER is
different in each??? Go figure. OH! And one more note of interest. It seems that Netscape WILL display a table with a missing end tag when it is enclosed in CSS Styles, however, it's alignment is way out of whack. :-) ****************
UPDATE: Thanks to Vikki's patience and assistance, I *think* these inline table problems and my codes have been cleaned up and are behaving. THANKS!!
